Mission Statement: We create unique and engaging experiences that connect you to the Oregon coast and inspire ocean conservation.
Vision Statement: The Oregon Coast Aquarium is a captivating destination and a trusted resource for ocean education and conservation in the Pacific Northwest.
PROJECT INTENT
The Oregon Coast Aquarium seeks to commission an artist to create a piece of wall art, focusing on a megalodon shark to adorn a wall in our ‘Passages of the Deep’ exhibit.
Final artwork will be applied via vinyl on the wall’s surface. Any non-digital artwork will be high-resolution scanned and applied to vinyl for installation on the wall.
The artwork should:
The primary subject of the artwork should focus on a megalodon shark.
In the past, the Aquarium has had a large set of prop megalodon shark jaws in front of this wall. Previous artwork on this wall has shown a forced perspective of a megalodon shark with its mouth open, to spatially align with the prop jaws (see final page of this PDF for images). We are planning to relocate the same megalodon prop jaws in front of this wall, in the same position, again. So, any proposed artwork should take that into account.
We are looking for more of a photo-realistic style of artwork. Or a scientific illustration style of artwork. Please see images of previous artwork on this wall for reference. (Can be seen on last page of PDF).
The Aquarium’s budget for commissioned artwork is $2,500. This includes artist’s design fee and any associated travel costs. This does not include scanning/file prep/vinyl print and installation fees. Scanning, file prep, vinyl print and installation are all the responsibility of the Aquarium.
ELIGIBILITY
This project is open to all artists, age 18 and over, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, military status, sexual orientation, marital status or physical or mental disability. Artists must be residents of the state of Oregon.
