The Aquarium is an excellent resource for educators and students. We offer grade-appropriate programs aligned to state and national standards as well as to the national Ocean Literacy principles. Programs are hands-on and designed to augment your classroom instruction. Pre- and post-materials are available under each program description below.

Programs By Grade

Preschool through Elementary Grade Programs

Grades Pre-K – 1st Grade.
Read-along with an Aquarium Educator: 30 minutes
$30 flat rate for 10 – 30 students plus chaperones

Explore the critters of the Oregon coast through a fun and interactive read-along program. Dive into an ocean-themed book with an aquarium educator. Then learn about an animal from the story as we investigate the lives of our scaly, furry, and feathered friends.

1st Grade (can be adapted for Kindergarten and 2nd Grade)
45 – 50 minutes
$60 flat fee for 10 – 35 students plus chaperones

How do tidepool animals thrive in Oregon’s wild waves? Discover how through a hands-on investigation of these creatures and their amazing features which help them survive. Compare and contrast these features with familiar objects to learn how nature inspires human inventions!

45-50 minutes

Discover the world of plankton! Use scientific tools to collect microscopic life from the Yaquina Bay and examine the external structures of plankton. Use scientific reasoning to complete the lifecycle of a local mystery plankton. Make predictions, investigate, and discover!

Middle School Programs

6th – 8th Grades
60 Minutes
$60 flat fee for 10-30 Students plus chaperones

Explore how animals interact with one another through complex feeding relationships in an ocean food web. Students will actively participate in building a marine food chain by feeding zooplankton to a secondary consumer and searching the Aquarium for both predator and prey.

BRINE AND DINE TEACHER’S GUIDE »

6th – 7th Grades
60 minutes
$60 flat fee for 10-20 students plus chaperones

Come learn about the local wildlife and ecosystems of the Oregon coast. Students will reflect on their own connection to the coast as we explore the adaptations, interactions, and individual experiences that make it such a special place.

Because this program takes place in the exhibit areas of the Aquarium, availability may vary.

High School Programs

9th – 12th Grades
45 – 55 minutes
5 to 15 students, $45 flat rate for 5 to 15 participants (including chaperones).

This tour takes high school and college students behind-the-scenes to discover all about the science of animal care, training and water quality. How does the Aquarium care for a swarm of stinging jellies, and dozens of toothy sharks? Travel behind-the-scenes with us to explore the science behind caring for over 15,000 animals every day and discover what career possibilities await you.
