Policies

Pet & Service Animal Policy

Due to the health and safety concerns of Aquarium animals, pets are not allowed past the front gates. The exception to this rule are certified service animals, including seeing-eye or hearing-ear dogs. The ADA defines a service animal as ANY guide dog, signal dog, or other animal individually trained to provide assistance to an individual with a disability. If they meet this definition, animals are considered service animals under the ADA regardless of whether they have been licensed or certified by a State or local government.

Pet Related Facilities

Please be aware that coastal weather can change quickly and this may result in uncomfortable or even dangerous conditions for animals left in unattended cars. Local and affordable pet-sitting options are available for visitors to the Newport area. (Contact the Newport Chamber of Commerce for additional information.) The Aquarium does not provide pet-sitting services but there are pet animal exercise areas in the parking lots. For both courtesy and good hygiene, please remove all animal waste and dispose of it in trash receptacles.

Food & Refreshments

Please note there is no outside food allowed inside the facility. Water bottle refill stations are available throughout the Aquarium. Guests wishing to eat at the Aquarium can visit our café or coffee shop.

Chewing Gum Free Environment

Chewing gum has the potential to harm the animals in our open exhibits such as the “touch tanks,” and play havoc with our complex water filtration system. As such, we request all guests throw out chewing gum prior to entering the galleries from the main lobby.

Smoke/Vape Free Environment

For the health of our animals, our guests and our staff, the Aquarium grounds are completely smoke-free. Smoking, aerosolizing or vaporizing at the OCAq will only be permitted in vehicles owned by employees, volunteers, contractors and visitors. All smokers are required to safely dispose of smoking debris, and not throw them on the ground.

Photography & Using Flash

You may take photos and videos for personal use; no drones, tripods or monopods are permitted. Flash is not allowed indoors or near our Octopus Cave.
