During the Sea of Lights event, the Oregon Coast Aquarium transformed into more than a winter wonderland, it became a hub of generosity. Thanks to the incredible support of the community, guests didn’t just come to enjoy the festive displays, they came ready to give.
The second weekend of Sea of Lights doubled as a “Food Drive Weekend”. General admission was $10, but guests who brought a food donation received $5 admission, transforming a simple act of kindness into a shared celebration of giving. By the end of the weekend an astounding amount of food, over 2,500 pounds, was collected for the Lincoln County Food Share.
Nancy Mitchell, Executive Director of Food Share of Lincoln County, expressed her gratitude and highlighted the lasting impact of the community’s giving spirit. “We’re incredibly thankful to the Oregon Coast Aquarium staff and community members for participating in the Sea of Lights food drive…,” said Mitchell. “With many households struggling to make ends meet, their generosity strengthens our ability to serve families, seniors, and children across Lincoln County.”
The success of the Sea of Lights Food Drive is a shining example of what can happen when a community comes together. Thanks to guests, members, and staff, the holiday season brought more than festive lights; it brought hope and support for families across Lincoln County.
“This food drive shows what’s possible when our community comes together. Thanks to the generosity of our visitors, members, staff, and partners, we collected more than 2,500 pounds of food—supporting the families of Lincoln County.” Said Carrie Lewis, President and CEO of the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
The Oregon Coast Aquarium could not have this without the generosity of our visitors, donors, members, staff and volunteers.
