Appearance

This crab has an expansive half-moon shaped carapace that can completely cover its 8 walking legs and 2 smooth chelipeds. The carapace comes in a variety of colors including gray, brown, scarlet, bright orange, purple, or olive while the underside of the shell is usually white. Its rostrum is widest at the tip.

Habitat

In rocky habitas in the Intertidal to subtidal depths of 49 feet.

Feeds on coralline algae

Life History

A male’s carapace can grow to 3.5 inches wide.
