Sea of Lights Illuminates the Oregon Coast Aquarium
November 12, 2013
This family-friendly event kicks off with live holiday music and an opportunity to meet Santa in his workshop on December 6 and 7 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Thousands of colorful twinkling lights and holiday decorations will surround visitors with the spirit of the season as they explore the Aquarium after hours.
Admission to this spirited celebration of the holiday season is $2.00 per person with two items of non-perishable food for Food Share of Lincoln County. Guests may also bring pet food for the Lincoln County Animal Shelter or a new unwrapped children's toy for the Newport Fire Department’s Holiday Toy Drive in place of a food donation. Entry for those without food or toy donations is $5.00. Admission is free to members, but they are encouraged to bring an item to donate.
“Sea of Lights lets the Aquarium give back to the community, but we also organize it for the sheer fun of it. There is no other place to go see a big light display on the central Oregon coast,” said Michele Steen, the event’s organizer.
The 2013 Sea of Lights will also include additional operating dates. Starting Sunday, December 8, and every following Saturday and Sunday in December, Sea of Lights will illuminate the Aquarium from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Admission to this show of sparkling holiday cheer is $8.00 per person.
“Guest feedback in 2012 indicated that adding weekend dates throughout the month of December would make it easier for everyone to see Sea of Lights,” said Lance Beck, Director of Marketing. “We are excited to offer these additional dates to our member and visitor community.”
This year’s Sea of Lights is proudly presented by Walmart. As a part of their presenting sponsorship, customers that spend over $100 at Walmart’s Newport, Oregon location during November will receive a voucher for one free admission to Sea of Lights at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. Offer valid while supplies last. Attendees using a voucher are encouraged, but not required, to make a food or toy donation.
The Oregon Coast Aquarium is open every day, except December 25, this winter from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For more information visit aquarium.org or call (541) 867-3474.
