Oregon Coast Aquarium Offers Discount for Summer Camp Early Registration

Newport, Oregon— The Oregon Coast Aquarium is offering a 10 percent discount for people who register for their summer camp programs before April 15. Voted as Lincoln County’s best summer camp for children, the day camps offer a diverse array of marine science related activities distinctive to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

The Pre-School Day Camp is custom tailored for kids ages four and five. Parents, although not required to attend, are welcome to join their paid campers free of charge. Offered on three Fridays in June from 9:00 a.m. to noon, camp education topics include “Super Stars,” “Shark Bites” and “Puffin Parade.”

Elementary Day Camps are available for two age groups, 1st – 2nd grade, and 3rd – 5th grade. The programs will be offered on most Fridays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. in July and August. Topics include animal care, art and the geology and marine life of Hawaii. There’s a program for every child, adventurous kids will love the ick-factor of “Slimeology 101” whereas the cuteness of “Harry Otter” is perfect for those that prefer a more cuddly experience. “Kraken Kamp” campers will learn about cephalopods and shake hands with a Giant Pacific Octopus.

Campers and their families can extend the fun of the “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Shark?” camp by signing up for the Shark Slumber Party that night. New this year, the Aquarium will also offer an option for childcare for one hour before and after the Elementary Day Camp at an additional cost.

Also new for 2013 is the Edible Ocean program. This special overnight family campout is 24 hours of Aquarium fun for kids ages 6 and older and their parents. This camp highlights the edible aspects of the ocean and coastline near the Aquarium. Campers will learn about edible plants, berries, seaweeds, clamming and crabbing. The experience also includes an Aquarium behind the scenes tour followed by camping tips, a campfire dinner, night hike and morning tide pool exploration at Beverly Beach State Park.

Summer Camp programs can be booked individually or as a package appropriate to the child’s age group. Summer Camps are booked on a first-reserved, first served basis.
