Spring Break Activities

Activities for all ages are offered during Spring Break at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. In addition to daily animal feedings and hands-on exhibits, the Aquarium will offer animal encounters, a chance to “Sleep with the Sharks” and outdoor explorations. Aquarium hours are 10 am to 6 pm during Spring Break, March 24 – April 8.


Preschool Programs (2-5 year olds with a parent)

For these preschool programs, rubber boots and a change of clothing are recommended. $15 for members, $20 for non members, per adult/child pair. To register for preschool programs, call 541-867-3474, Ext. 5301, or email education@aquarium.org. Registration must be completed the Wednesday before the program.

Tuesday, March 27: Let’s Go Tidepooling 10 - 11:30 am Children and parents will explore a local rocky intertidal zone at low tide and look for animals that live there.

Wednesday, March 28: What’s In the Mud? 10:30 am - 12 noon Children and parents investigate the mudflats and the animals that live there.


Summer Camp Previews (Ages 6 through 12) March 29 – 31, 2 – 3 pm

An hour-long activity preview of what is offered during summer day camps. Space is limited to 30 people on a first-come, first-served basis. Children must have an adult present to participate. A signup sheet will be in the lobby starting at noon each day. Free with admission.

Thursday, March 29: Freshwater Exploration.  Kids explore the Aquarium creek looking for aquatic insects and other interesting creatures to look at under microscopes.

Friday, March 30: An exploration of the Passages of the Deep exhibit, learning about sharks.

Saturday, March 31: The Aquarium’s California sea lions Max, Quill, and Lea are artists! Kids will go behind the scenes and see a live demonstration of these animals painting.


The Great Oregon Spring Beach Cleanup Saturday, March 31 (all ages) 10 am – 1 pm

Join the Aquarium staff and volunteers in a celebration of clean seas with Oregonians from all over the state, by cleaning up area beaches on Saturday, March 31st.  The Aquarium will be cleaning up South Beach State Park in Newport, Oregon.  Look for the Aquarium registration table in the parking lot near the beach.  Wear appropriate clothing for this event, which may include a rainproof outer layer, head covering and close-toed shoes. Sleep With the Sharks! Family Sleepover (Ages 6 and up) 6 pm April 7 – 9 am April 8

Participating families have the Aquarium to themselves as they enjoy a scavenger hunt, hands-on activities, and an early morning glimpse behind-the-scenes at the Aquarium. Sleepovers include dinner, a late snack and a light breakfast.  $50 per person for members, $55 per person for non members. Adult chaperones must accompany children 6-17 years old.


Killer Whale Tales (all ages) April 5 – 8

As part of the Oregon Coast Aquarium's educational efforts to raise awareness about these amazing marine mammals, the Aquarium hosts "Killer Whale Tales" on four consecutive days: April 5, - 8. This program combines storytelling with science activities that challenge kids to take the conservation of resident Orcas into their own hands.

School Days, April 5 and 6: One hour presentations will be held at 11 am and 1 pm. Registration for "Killer Whale Tales" is required for school groups. The program is free with the regular price of admission. If there is additional space available during these presentations, it will be made available to the public.  Call (541) 867-3474, Ext. 5301, Monday through Friday between 9 am and 4 pm to register.

Public Days, April 7 and 8: “Killer Whale Tales” One hour presentations will be held at 11 am and 1 pm. No pre-registration is required, but seating will be on a first come, first served basis.  Interested parties should meet in the Aquarium's main lobby fifteen minutes prior to show times and will be escorted to the theater.


Sea Lion Kiss - Every day March 24 – through the summer except March 31 (Ages 8 and up)  2:30 pm 

Get a sea lion kiss behind the scenes at the Aquarium. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera and capture the memory to enjoy for years to come. $25 members, $30 non members. Maximum 10 participants; 15-20 minute program.


Sea Lion Encounter April 7:  (Ages 8 and up) 10 am Every Saturday starting March 17

Learn about the Aquarium’s pinnipeds and get a sea lion kiss behind the scenes at the Aquarium. Participants are encouraged to bring a camera and capture the memory to enjoy for years to come. Make reservations in advance by calling 541-867-3474. $35 members, $40 non members. Maximum 10 participants; one hour program.


Octopus Encounter (Ages 8 and up) 12:00 pm

Every Tuesday and Thursday for April/May; Special Additional Days; March 31, April 7

Go behind-the-scenes on a popular encounter to shake an octopus's “hands.” Learn about the amazing life of one of the most intelligent invertebrates on the planet. $35 members/$40 non members. Maximum 10 participants; one hour program.
