Spring Break Offers Fascinating Fun

Activities for all ages offered during spring break at the Oregon Coast Aquarium. In addition to daily animal feedings and hands-on exhibits, the Aquarium will offer animal encounters, sleepovers and a trip to the mudflats of an estuary. Visitors can also see the Aquarium’s newest resident sea otter, Mojo. “This is a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy themselves at the beach while learning about marine science and spending time together,” said Cindy Hanson, Aquarium Public Relations Manager. “Our educators are adept at inspiring inquisitive young minds to connect with nature.” Aquarium hours are 9 am to 5 pm during spring break.


March 19 - Naturalist Andy Lamb to talk and signs books, 9 am – 5 pm

Renowned author and naturalist Andy Lamb will talk about his latest books, Coastal Fishes of the Pacific Northwest and Marine Life of the Pacific Northwest. Lamb will give a DVD presentation about Pacific Northwest fishes and invertebrates, showing how they stay the same while the world around them changes. Q & A will follow. He will also sign copies of his books, which will be available for purchase. Events take place throughout the day in the Gleason Event Room located near the exit of Passages of the Deep. Free with regular Aquarium admission.


March 19 - Sea Lion Encounter, 10 – 11 am

Ages 8 and up. Learn about the Aquarium’s pinnipeds and get a sea lion kiss.  Register at  541-867-3474.


March 19 - Cub Scout Sleepover, Saturday, 6 pm - Sunday, 9 am

Ages 7 and up. Scouts spend the night in the shark tunnel of Passages of the Deep.  Includes pizza, a scavenger hunt, and activities designed to fulfill some badge requirements. After a late night snack, scouts fall asleep to sharks and fish swimming over their heads. Light breakfast provided. Register two weeks in advance at 541-867-3474.


March 22 and 23 - Pre-school Special: "What's in the Mud?" 10:30am – 12 pm

Ages 2-5 with adult. Explore mudflats and learn about the animals that live there. Includes Aquarium visit, craft, song and story. Register at 541-867-3474. Spaces fill quickly, register by the Wednesday before the program. (Adult participation required).
