Spring Break Discoveries Abound

Camps, animal encounters and sleepovers offer a chance to learn and connect with nature

The Oregon Coast Aquarium will offer educational activities for all ages during spring break and the entire month of March. This is a wonderful opportunity for kids to enjoy themselves at the beach while learning about marine science and having fun with other children. Our educators are exceptionally gifted and committed to helping kids connect with nature.

Octopus Encounter, March 3, 10 am

Learn what’s involved in caring for one of the ocean’s most intelligent creatures as you come hand-to-suction cup with a giant Pacific octopus. Under the supervision and guidance of an aquarist, you’ll have an opportunity to handle an octopus and watch it eat a special meal prepared by you. Home School Week, March 5 - 9, 10 am to 5 pm

This is the second year the Aquarium will team up with the Hatfield Marine Science Center, South Beach State Park and Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area to offer a full week of home school programming. Sea Otter Encounter, March 25, 10 am

Learn about the sea otter’s many adaptations and the challenges these adaptations pose for their caretakers. Prepare otter treats and meet a mammalogist to learn about animal care and feeding as you watch sea otters up close. (Registration required.) $30 members, $35 nonmembers. Family Sleepover, March 25, 7 pm to 9 am

Great fun and educational activities designed for families with children ages 6–12. Includes an Aquarium scavenger hunt, snack, shark presentation and a movie. Sea Squirts: Home is Where Your Shell Is - March 27, 10 am

Two and three-year-olds and an accompanying adult will join one of our marine educators as we search the ocean to discover where these sea creatures make their homes. Build a craft, learn a new song, participate in story time and meet some of the aquariums coolest critters! Register by March 22nd. $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Oceans of Fun: Super Sharks - March 27, 2 pm

Four-and five-year-olds and an accompanying adult will learn what makes a shark different from all other fish. Join us as we visit with some of the most misunderstood and magical creatures of the deep. Make a craft, meet an aquarist and sing a shark song. Register by March 22nd. $25 members, $30 nonmembers. Sea Lion Encounter, March 28, 1 pm

Discuss the natural history of sea lions with Aquarium staff, prepare a sea lion snack, learn about their basic needs and receive a fishy kiss from Lea, one of the Aquarium’s friendlier pinnipeds and a photo of your experience. Spring Break Overnight Camp, March 29 - 30, 2 pm to 9 am

Children 8-12 years old can become marine biologists during this special camp. This opportunity includes fun educational activities, a behind the scenes experience and a chance to sleep with the sharks in Passages of the Deep (Register by March 22). $70 members, $85 nonmembers.
