October 15, 2006

The Oregon Coast Aquarium announced James Draznin as its vice president of development. Draznin, a long-time fundraiser for various Oregon institutions and non-profits, will work from the aquarium’s new Portland office at 310 S.W. Fourth Ave., Suite 507.

Draznin previously was charitable gift planner for the Oregon Community Foundation, director of gift planning for the YMCA of Columbia-Willamette and major and legacy gift planner for Portland State University. He also held several posts in gift planning, annual giving and financial aid at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore.

“James’ strong fundraising background in the Portland area is a great addition to our institution. His experience and knowledge will greatly complement our board members’ abilities to create a strong statewide fundraising base for the current and future programs of Oregon’s world-class, top-10 aquarium,” said Dale Schmidt, the aquarium’s CEO/president.

Draznin said, “The aquarium is an engaging and inspirational environment.

For kids, the aquarium is a natural cause of wonder and irresistibly educational, while adults find it relaxing and conducive to reflection in a way that leaves them restored and refocused on big picture topics.” He has a bachelor of arts degree with honors in politics and classics at the University of California Santa Cruz and a master of arts degree in classical languages from UCLA.

Draznin’s affiliations include Estate Planning Council of Portland, National Committee on Planned Giving, KBPS Public Radio Foundation Board and University Club.
