Edible Ocean Family Camp Out
About the Camp Out
Back by popular demand, this exciting overnight camp-out invites campers to join us in an exploration of our edible ocean and coastline. We'll start above the waves with an edible plants and berries walk, then head out to the mudflats for the main event; learning to clam! We will also learn what is edible in the tidepools, including seaweed! Before heading to our campsite at Beverly Beach State Park, we will get a lesson on crabbing and check on some crab pots. For dinner, we will put all of our knowledge into a big pot and create a seafood feast! Optional evening activities include a presentation by park staff and a sensory night hike. Campers of all experience levels are welcome.
Note: Please dress for the outdoor conditions associated with clamming and hiking. Lunch will not be provided on Saturday, and campers are encouraged to eat a meal in advance of attending.
Please note, everyone over 14 who wants to dig for clams will need to purchase a shellfish license prior to participation. Information about shellfish licenses can be found here.
